HERE COMES THE GROOM-ING FOR YOUR DOG 2 0F 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — fworth @ 9:40 pm

Proper dental care is as necessary for your dog’s teeth as you deem it necessary for your own. Gum disease in dogs result from tartar and plaque buildup. Giving your dog a balanced diet does not guarantee him that he will be free from gum diseases and other dental concerns. This is why regularly cleaning your dog’s gums and teeth is very crucial to ensure good dental hygiene.

Dog grooming specialists strongly recommend brushing your dog’s coat regularly, as having a thick and tangled coat can bring on bacterial infections and skin diseases. Brushing the skin can help stimulate blood circulation, which in turn promotes growth of new skin cells and removes dirt and dander.

For dogs with relatively shorter hair, a firm clothes brush can do the job well, although if you opt for a stiffer brush, there are lots of varieties available at the pet store. For the longer-haired dogs, using a sturdy steel comb brush is a must. Brushing should be thorough and should be done on the entire coat, the stomach, the ears and behind the legs.

Contrary to common belief, bathing should be done as infrequently as possible. This is because frequent bathing can rid the dog of its natural oils, which dries out the coat, making it harsh. If you do give your dog a bath, it is advisable to do it with a mild dog shampoo.

Finally, groom your dog’s nails. This is an aspect that should not be overlooked. They should be trimmed every 2 months, which would depend on how much your dog exercises and what kind of ground he walks and plays on. Cut his nails, using dog nail cutters, which are available at pet stores.

HERE COMES THE GROOM-ING FOR YOUR DOG 1 0F 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — fworth @ 3:46 am

You may think that “dog grooming” can only be done in the costly pet salons. Although it is correct that your dog can do without the expensive spa treatments and the fancy haircuts, the basics of dog grooming are vital for your dog’s health and well-being. Neglecting your dog’s grooming habits may cause health issues and concerns later on. Dog grooming specialists advise that dogs should not only look good but also feel good.

Here are some aspects of dog grooming that you should focus on. It would also be important to start early on in doing the grooming habits – if possible, as soon as you take the puppy home from the pet shop.

Caring for your dog’s eyes require routine cleansing. The eyes of your dog should always be clean, lustrous and bright in appearance. Make sure that there is no redness or too much discharge. Buildup is inevitable in the dog’s eyes and that can be cleaned by wiping them with a damp and clean cloth. But if the discharge seems to be thicker than normal or mucus-like, it is necessary to check with his veterinarian.

For those dogs with long face hair like Shih Tzus (along with their protruding eyes), their eyes are more at risk for bruises, scratches and injuries. It would be advisable to avoid their hair from getting into their eyes as this can cause irritation. You can place small barrettes to pin down the longer strands of face hair. However, if their eyes still end up getting irritated, there are products that can help alleviate mild infections of dogs’ eyes.

Another important dog grooming aspect would be caring for your dog’s ears. A common source of bacteria growth is dirt and moisture buildup in the ears. When giving your dog a bath, place cotton in his ears to keep water and soap out. Try to clip your dog’s ear hair with small trimming scissors and wipe the ears with a piece of clean cloth top make sure that the ears are always kept dry. If there is any earwax buildup, a trip to veterinarian is a must as it can lead to a serious infection.

TIPS ON BUYING THE PERFECT DOG FOR YOU 2 0F 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — fworth @ 2:07 am

Purchasing From a Dog Shelter

You may also look into getting a dog from one of the shelters in your community. You feel good that you are actually saving a dog’s life and that you will be providing food and shelter to an abandoned puppy. However, it is wise to keep in mind that the little pup you have your eyes on may have been straying for a period of time and may have developed some unpleasant behavior. Try not to have your heart captured by the first cute dog you see. Talk to the shelter people and ask for some background on the dog that you are planning to take home.

Choosing a Fit Puppy

Although it could be hard for a novice to recognize the healthier puppy of the two, it actually is easier than one would think. A health dog should be pleasantly plump, not too fat or does not have a swollen stomach. The skin of the dog should be a little loose instead of sticking to the bones. Check the fur, which should be shiny and free from and lice and fleas. The dog should look bright-eyed and does not have any discharge coming from its eyes.

Finally, choose the one who acts lively and enthusiastic to meet and be with people, as this is a sign that it can be easily trained. Also, expect that the owner of the pet shop would also ask you some questions so that he can make sure that he is selling the dog to a good and suitable owner. Don’t worry, if you are one, then that’s bound to be seen as you play with the puppy in the store.

TIPS ON BUYING THE PERFECT DOG FOR YOU 1 0F 2

So you are out to buy a dog as a pet? Do not just go out and buy the first one you deem cute or you feel would be easy to take care of. Here are some helpful tips on how to properly choose the dog that would be perfect for you.

The Impulse Buy

Resisting the cuteness of a little puppy from a window of a pet shop is hard, especially if you feel that it is calling out to you for you to take him home. Remember that these cute little puppies have been through a long trip from their breeder and may be carrying diseases.

Make sure that you only buy from a pet shop with a good reputation, preferably one that has been around for quite some time to make sure that the pup you will be purchasing have already been given the correct vaccination shots, complete with inoculation certificates.

Making a Cautious Choice

If it is possible, try to pay a visit to the breeder’s home or the owner of the pup’s mom. This is so that you will be able to verify the cleanliness of the previous home, and how the pup’s parents behave. It is always a good idea to meet the parents of the puppy you will be buying as this provides some kind of assurance on how healthy and well-behaved your little puppy would be.

Be Wary When Buying From an Ad on a Newspaper

Be very cautious when purchasing a pup that was advertised on a newspaper. Before buying it, pay a visit and evaluate its appearance, health and pre-existing condition, as sometimes dogs advertised on paper turn out to be very different from how they were promoted. Even if there was a money-back guarantee offered, it ends up being too much of a hassle and a disappointment, particularly when little kids are involved.

In another large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and put in minced 1 clove garlic and sliced 2 small onions. Cook until the onions are transparent. This time, add 3 cups of fresh or frozen corn kernels and continue cooking for approximately five more minutes. Then, add in ¾ cup of cooked kidney beans and the saved potato water and allow to boil. Instantly reduce the heat of the stove to a simmer until the corn is tender.

While waiting for the corn to be cooked, put the potatoes into a food blender and add ¾ cup of milk, and liquefy. Then, pour the liquid into the corn soup and add pepper and salt to taste. This will make about 1 liter of dog soup.
